Mahabat Murzakanova describes the Climate Change Village outside the official schedule of events at COP-16 in Cancun.

CANCUN, Mexico - December 1, 2010
Running simultaneously with the COP-16, is an unofficial event called ‘Climate Change Village.’ It is an exhibition of various projects directed at preventing climate change. The Ford Company is exhibiting a new hybrid car, some are displaying sunshine collectors and energy saving lamps, while others propose vegetarianism as a means of lowering demand for farming and land.

HA NOI — Projects that promote low-carbon technology and energy efficiency in commercial and residential buildings will be given top priority for funding from the Global Environment Facility (GEF) during the next four years.
Other projects that promote investment in renewable energy will also be given priority, including those relating to climate change, biodiversity and land degradation.

HCM CITY — Viet Nam will need more support from international experts to deal with environmental pollution, a senior official said yesterday.
Speaking at the Viet Nam Environment Forum in HCM City, Deputy Minister of Natural Resources and Environment Nguyen Van Duc welcomed a visiting US business delegation and said he was pleased they would help address environmental problems.
A group of eight US enterprises, laboratories and universities joined the forum to showcase models, technologies and applications from the US environmental industry that can benefit Viet Nam. |

HCM CITY — The HCM City Department of Transportation is mapping out a plan to replace more than half of its bus fleet with "greener" models.
Deputy director of the department Duong Hong Thanh said nearly 3,200 buses are currently operating in the city, all of which were added to the fleet since 2003. About 1,300 of the vehicles meet the Euro 1 emissions standard, which is currently the most lenient European standard for nitrogen oxide, carbon monoxide and other exhaust fumes. |
